Overview
Coherent is an independent designer and manufacturer of specialty optical fiber, phase masks and advanced optical components. Our specialty fiber and phase masks are used in a wide range of industries and applications, including optical telecommunications, fiber lasers, fiber optic gyroscopes, and fiber sensors.
Coherent specializes in the design and manufacture of specialty optical fiber for a variety of applications, including ytterbium-doped fiber for fiber lasers, erbium-doped fiber for optical fiber amplifiers, and polarization-maintaining fiber for fiber gyroscopes. Our specialty fiber offering also includes photosensitive fiber for Bragg gratings, as well as select cut-off, bend insensitive fiber and polyimide-coated fiber. As well as offering a complete line of standard specialty fiber products, we also entertain custom orders. Coherent's strengths include advanced specialty fiber coatings (e.g. polyimide, advanced gyroscope coating, and high-adhesion low-index coating for double-clad fiber) and sophisticated optical fiber characterization techniques.
Our holographically recorded phase masks are high-precision phase diffraction gratings, intended for use in the fabrication of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). Coherent was a co-developer of the world's first phase mask for FBG fabrication. FBGs serve as in-fiber wavelength filters in a variety of applications, including telecommunications (WDM and gain-flattening), fiber lasers, and pressure, strain and temperature sensors. We can optimize a phase mask for a unique application, or tailor its dimensions for your requirements.
