Alignment Laser Selector
StockerYale manufactures quality structured light lasers for alignment applications. Our laser line generators and cross-hair projectors are used in alignment systems around the world.
Consider the following questions before selecting a Lasiris™ laser for your application:
Pattern:
What type of pattern do I want to project onto my target?
Common patterns used in alignment applications:
| Single line » 501L or 701L* lens | |
| Cross hair » 501H lens |
*For alignment purposes, the 501L lens is intended for green lasers while the 701L lens is intended for red lasers.
Working distance:
How far should my laser be from the target?
Use the fan angle and line length calculator to determine the fan angle (the angular spread of the laser beam) or the line length at your desired working distance.

Wavelength:
What color should my laser emit?
- Red (635 nm) lasers are recommended and usually suitable for laser alignment applications. However, green (532 nm) lasers have a higher visibility, as the human eye is more sensitive to green. For example, a 1 mW green beam (532 nm) will be better perceived by the human eye than a 1 mW red beam (635 nm).
- Red lasers are generally less expensive than green lasers.
Eye safety:
Is my laser eye safe?
- Keep your laser eye safe in class II (CDRH standards) or class 1/2/2M (IEC standards).
- The output power of your laser is directly proportional to the safety level of your laser. The higher the output power, the higher the class rating of your laser.
- The fan angle of your line laser can change the eye safety level of your laser. Generally, larger fan angles are more eye safe than smaller ones.
- Please consult a StockerYale representative to determine the class rating of your desired laser, or visit the Laser Safety section of our website for more details.
Operating temperature:
Will my laser function properly in my work environment?
- If the laser is operated in a normal environment (10 to 30°C or 50 to 86°F), we recommend our standard laser models:
- SNF Laser, red (635 nm)
- Green Laser (GLL), green (532 nm)
- If the laser is operated in a cold (-20 to 10°C or -4 to 50°F) or hot environment (30 to 45°C or 86 to 113°F), we recommend our thermoelectrically cooled (TEC) laser models, which cool or heat the laser depending on the surrounding conditions:
- TEC Laser , red (635 nm)
- Green TEC Laser, green (532 nm)
Accessories for your laser:
What else do I need?
- Power supply: a plug-in wall adapter that supplies 6 V of power to your laser for normal operation. Ask for P- 115 in North America and P- 220 in Europe. A battery pack (for short term operation only) is included at no cost with your order.
- Mounting bracket: position your laser for precise alignment. Fixed or pivoting. Brackets are also effective dissipaters of heat.
Placing your order:
Use the following code:
LASER SERIES – PATTERN & LENS TYPE – WAVELENGTH – POWER – FAN ANGLE
Please supply a StockerYale representative or distributor with the laser series (e.g. SNF), the pattern and lens type (e.g. 701L), the wavelength (e.g. 635 nm), the diode power (e.g. 10 mW), and the fan angle (e.g. 45°).
